Composed in 2001 this piece was awarded first prize at the Pablo Sorozabal Composition Competition 2005 and premiered by the Iturriaga Quartet in at the Quincena Musical 2006 in San Sebastián, Spain.
Mauricio Pauly’s music has been performed in numerous cities across Europe and the Americas by ensembles and soloists including L’Arsenale, JACK Quartet, Iturriaga Quartet, Asamisimasa, Eunoia Quinttet, Dal Niente, ACME, Ikarus Chamber Players, Vertixe Sonora and Francesco Dillon, among others. He received a Staubach Honoraria commission for the 2010 Darmstadt Courses; a new octet for Dal Niente Ensemble will be premiered at Darmstadt 2012 in July. In August he will attend the Harvard University Residence for Composers and present a new piece for Talea Ensemble. A new piece for violin and guitar pedals will be premiered by Karin Hellqvist at the Ultima Festival in Oslo in September. A recording of his latest string quartet by the JACK Quartet will be released at the end of the year. In 2011, Mauricio was awarded the Costa Rican Authors and Composers Association Composition Prize. He is co-artistic director of the Distractfold Ensemble. Mauricio lives in Manchester, UK and teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music. He is an electric bass player and currently performs with his trio A Greater Horror.
